Featured Reseller – Compass Computing Group

What do hockey and IT have in common? Not too much, unless you’re a goalie and blocking pucks?

That’s what Frank Bubenik, of Compass Computing Group is passionate about. Well, that and providing awesome IT solutions to companies and organizations in Portland, Oregon.

Like other IT solutions providers, Compascompcomgrp-main_r2_c1s Computing Group has built a reputation for taking care of their clients and provides an array of specialized IT services. “Our diverse lines of business has helped us provide complete services to our clients,” Frank explains. “It gives us an edge because we’re a one-stop shop.”

Compass Computing Group’s clients include many Portland area small and medium businesses, and government entities, like the Oregon Lottery and the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Department. Their client roster also includes Markiz & Associates, a CPA firm in Beaverton, Oregon. “They are a huge fan of CRU® equipment,” Frank said.

“Being a small business these days, there are many IT issues to consider,” Frank said. “The cloud, securing your data, backing it up, and keeping up with the pace of change: those are things we hear about from our clients and out in the community.”

And since he serves on the Tualatin City Council, Frank spends a great deal of time out in the community, which gives him a real-world perspective on what people are concerned about.

“One of the things we tell people is that the cloud is great, but it’s not your single solution to back up and secure your data. Businesses need to remember that if your data is in the cloud, and something happens to your computer system, it’s going to take you quite a while to get that data back. And the longer it takes, the longer your business will be shut down.”

Frank advises his clients that having onsite backup is a must. “Having your data on various disks and at a couple different locations, is really the key to a fast recovery. That way, if something happens to your data, you have copies of it on hand. At that point, recovering your information is really just as simple as inserting that backup disk into your computer, and you’re off and running again.”

“Plus, if you’re concerned about keeping your data private, then having an onsite backup over the cloud is definitely something you need to think about,” Frank added.

Besides IT, Frank is a huge hockey fan. He played hockey growing up, and is a big fan of the Portland Winterhawks, a longtime franchise in the Western Hockey League.

Backing up your data is kind of like being a hockey goalie, where it’s the goalie’s job to keep the goal safe from an invading puck. You can block most of those shots, but you won’t block them all. And it only takes one slapshot to ruin your day.
